2009 Toucan Wines Estate Zinfandel (B2)

(Toucan Vineyard, Estate Zinfandel & 10% Petite Sirah)

40 cases produced - call to order, very limited

The 2009 vintage was marked by a dry and warm winter, rains that came is spring, and a hot spike in September that resulted in an accelerated harvest.

We produced only two wines in 2009, the 2009 Estate Toucanet and the Estate Zinfandel - all of the Estate Petite Sirah from 2009 was blending into these wines.

The Estate Zinfandel was bottled in two phases, the first bottling was 200 cases (sold out), and was bottled a few months earlier than the second.

The second bottling of 2009 Toucan Wines Estate Zinfandel of 40 cases is bolder than the sold out first bottling of 200 cases. More time in barrel improved the mouth-feel and produced a bigger, yet balanced and structured Zinfandel and Petite Sirah blend.

The 2009 is drinking very nicely, having aged and softened with 26 months in fine oak barrels and at the time of release has spent nearly a year and a half resting in the bottle. A great full-bodied selection for any meal, like many of our Estate releases, this wine is tasting and drinking wonderfully upon release and will age to become a favorite in your wine cellar.

Three Silver medals were awarded to this wine. I think this wine is best enjoyed now (with decanting) and for the next 6 to 8 years.
